Gifted Hands is an autobiography by Ben Carson, M.D. Dr. Carson is a world-renowned doctor and currently the Chief of Pediatric Neurosugery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In Gifted Hands, Dr. Carson tells the story of his life as it has unfolded to date. Dr. Carson began his early life as a troubled youth. After his father deserted their family, Ben, his mother, and his older brother Curtis experienced many great hardships. While he excelled academically, he was swayed by his peers, and wanted to fall in with the popular but “bad crowd. Ben also had a quick and violent temper that proved to bring him to a critical turning point in his life. After graduating from high school, Dr. Carson attended Yale University, where he received his Bachelor’s degree. He received his medical degree at the University of Michigan Medical School, and then began his formal career by becoming a resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 1985, Dr. Carson performed one of the first successful hemispherectomies.
