Hace treinta años los alienígenas contactaron por primera vez con el planeta Tierra. La raza humana esperó un ataque hostil o un gran avance en la tecnología. No ocurrió ninguna de las dos cosas. Los alienígenas eran refugiados, los últimos sobrevivientes de su planeta de origen. Al tiempo que las naciones del mundo intentaban ponerse de acuerdo en lo que tenían que hacer con ellas, las criaturas fueron instaladas de forma temporal en el Distrito 9 de Sudáfrica.

Ahora, la paciencia en cuanto a la situación de los alienígenas se ha agotado. El control sobre los extraterrestres ha sido delegado en Multi-National United (MNU), una compañía privada que lo que le interesa no es el bienestar de los alienígenas sino las formidables ganancias que les podría reportar su impresionante armamento, en el caso de que pudieran hacerlo funcionar. Hasta el momento no lo han logrado; la activación de las armas requiere ADN alienígena.

La tensión entre los extraterrestres y los humanos llega a un punto crítico cuando un operario de campo, Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley), contrae un misterioso virus que empieza a transformar su ADN. Wikus de la noche a la mañana se convierte en el hombre más perseguido del mundo y, a la vez, el más valioso, poque es la clave para descubrir los secretos de la tecnología alienígena. Marginado y sin amigos, solo le queda un lugar en el que poder ocultarse: el Distrito 9.

:love: Much of a great movie!!!Fantasy and the unlikely do not conflict in any way,they get along so very well together with realism that it does not take me by surprise the fact that the spaceship lasted so long a time,(20 years?)floating in the air just by itself.
